The Anti-Saloon League was their name, and we owe them thanks. Not for the 13 dark years of the "Noble Experiment" known to most folks as Prohibition,
but for what was borne of rebellious Americans everywhere demanding their whiskey, their gin, their beer!
The cocktail, a very American invention, was brought to life in places very much like singlebarrel, with many hidden away behind unmarked doors, and
found down steep stairwells in dusty basements. Notes of jazz joined with the soft clink of glasses brimming with handcrafted cocktails, expertly mixed
by barmen who knew their way around the practice of using sugars, creams, fresh fruit juices and savory herbs to make their libations. These ingredients
were needed to make the harsh, unaged, and sometimes poisonous spirits available during those times palatable! Our friend, the cocktail, which predates
Prohibition, now had a whole new chapter written by those fine bartenders.
Here at singlebarrel, we invite you to join us in revisiting the days of the Prohibition era speakeasy, and raise our glasses to December 5th, 1933,
the day the 21st Amendment was ratified, otherwise known as Repeal Day! Here in the post-Prohibition era, we leave passwords and secret entrances
behind, and welcome one and all to sit and sip a few, but remember...speak easy...
The prohibition in the South Bay on thoughtfully crafted, flavorful drinks brimming with not just fresh, hand selected ingredients, but a
classic style and vibrant personality is coming to an end! Join us for our Prohibition pre-opening party on May 10, 2010, from 7 pm to close.
Prohibition is a truly exclusive, invite only event, with access from 7 to 10 pm only allowed to the bearer (plus one guest) of the card personally
handed out by the proprietors of singlebarrel. On the back of the Prohibition invite card, a hand stamped password will allow access after
10 pm to those folks that cardholders wish to invite.
This is an evening to try tastes of something new, with two nationally acclaimed master mixologists, an award winning local brewery,
and a chance to imbibe like it's Repeal Day 1933, with classic and contemporary libations mixed by our passionate
bar staff in our unique atmosphere.
Prohibition is a one of a kind pre-opening party, thrown specifically for bartenders, bar owners and managers, and those who truly appreciate the craft of the cocktail.
singlebarrel will open to the public May 12th, but not until this Prohibition is in the books!

You will meet Manny Hinojosa, winner of Shake It Up, in Las Vegas, one of the largest mixology competitions in the world, currently working as the Bacardi
portfolio mixologist. With a unequalled passion for tequila, he will be mixing a mezcal and tequila concoction called La Perla, sure to be unforgettable!
Also joining us is Graham Kimura, national runner-up in the inaugural Absolut Top Bartender Challenge, and currently 360 Vodka's mixologist and brand
ambassador, stirring up for your sampling pleasure a 360 Double Chocolate Jalapeno Martini, with a delicate balance of sweet chocolate and a hint of spice.
Devil's Canyon Brewing Company from Belmont, CA will be on hand, pouring samples of all of their fine craft beers, such as the Full Boar Scotch Ale,
Deadicated Amber Ale, and their California Sunshine Rye IPA, brewed right here in the Bay Area!
Remember, from 7 to 10 pm, cardholders (plus one guest) only. From 10 pm to close, either the card or the password gets you in the door. We here at singlebarrel look

At singlebarrel, we thankfully revisit the days before the soda gun, before the sweet & sour mix. We deliberately turn our back on the newest
beverage technology, because we intend to slow things down. We hand squeeze our juices, because juice tastes so much better fresh. We muddle,
stir and shake in the classic style, and celebrate the art of the cocktail through revived classics, and classics-to-be.
